Description

Finished it about 3 days on and off.
I am not very happy with some things here, namely the lack of a sense of scale, the smoke and some colors.

Anyway I thought I would move on to other things and keep it as it is.

Tell me what to work on if you have time.

Wow - there's so much to appreciate here. Your brushstrokes have an energy to them that brings the image to life. The atmosphere gives the landscape tremendous depth, and one of my favorite parts about this painting is the way you depicted the billowing smoke. :)

Oh! I remember that from EK!... I was very impressed back then, and still am. :)

Brilliant landscape -- I like the lighting from the lava and the barren ash-covered ground. The smoke is as I'd said a little too sharp, but I like its solid feel.

I think perhaps the addition of small dead trees would lend itself to the scale issue. You need to add something the mind recognises in order for it to real measure it.

Other than that it's awesome. Great lighting and texture to the painting.. good job.

very nice! Is there any chance on you making a tutorial?

I've been trying to digitally paint stuff this realistic for what feels like ages.. but I guess I just suck at painting:(

thank you for all your comments guys, you made my day! =)
I agree on the crits, will keep that in mind for the next one.

TJVision: I'd be happy to help you out if i can-
just message me or mail me if you want.
I don't think I am anywhere in the position
to write a tutorial though, I am lacking too many basics for that.

i think you should add a burning corpse in the foreground, and make him look disappointed that he is burning, because really who wants to be burning?

great work man!

i cant do this. +5

Great work mate! Nice use of colour, it really gives out the Mood.
Yeah I struggle with the scale thing too. Just to give you some helpful tips on scale: i think you could try making the mountain taller and the ground detail smaller. Their are large ground plates that look like cracks on the ground. If you were to see them from the distance you are looking at the mountain it would be smaller than a human foot. ( but would take you weeks to do) You could also try lowering your horizon line to make the background mountains lower than the vocano giving it a more massive appearance...
But again doing fantastic work like yours would take up so much time!
Great work dude!

throw in some lava flows. that would be cool. maybe a dead tree catchin on fire.

or maybe that volcano in the background should have some smoke and lava spewing out of it. make it look like some waste land. Ever played Heroes of might and magic. Kinda like the wastelands in that.

Your use of plains, contrast and sharpness gives it a lot of credibility and great deapth- (unlike other digitally faded cwap) really nice.

This is great work! Better work than I could do. You said you were not pleased with the scale in your scene. Here is my suggestions. If you added more atmosphere that faded the distant mountains out and their details. There is alot of smoke in the air from the volcano. This would definitely effect the haze level. Also, if you removed the little sprouts of vegetations in the forground. They are too big for how close they are to the volcano compared to the distance you are trying to show, which makes the volcano feel smaller.
